I’ve written previously about versatile storage solutions, with an emphasis on those suitable for a diverse range of locations. However, for the most part, I tend to purchase furniture that is minimalist, functional and stylish but also affordable. These are just some of the reasons why I enjoyed the designer collaboration between high street brands HAY and COS.
Both HAY and COS were formed in the mid-2000s with a focus on sophisticated products influenced by contemporary design. HAY’s mission was to develop good ideas, utilising innovative technology and quality materials to do so – resulting in their subsequent expansion over the past decade to become a worldwide retailer. COS, a subsidiary of the H&M group, launched as a fashion brand for individuals who desire modern, considered design which employs traditional methods and new techniques to form timeless, understated collections. The collaboration between the two brands seems a natural progression, after years of COS using HAY products for in store display purposes to complement their clothing offering, with the products within the HAY x COS collection representing each brand’s Scandinavian heritage and affinity for clean, functional design.
The collection launched in September 2015, and in conversation with architectural, interiors and design publication Dezeen magazine, HAY co-founders, Mette and Rolf Hay stated, “At HAY we see ourselves in between fashion and architecture and in working with COS we feel like we have found a perfect home.”
